Building Houses

It's always a mess if you live across the street from houses being built.  Dust all over everything, roads being blocked and tore up with the heavy equipment it takes to build.  Everyday you can watch a new row of houses built, walls going up to protect the houses, street lights, sod being laid.  Costly project especially out in California where we live.

I think about those who will move into the soon finished houses.  Each family bringing their choices of decorating, each family usually taking on more debt then they can afford.  Each family with it's own story of how they got from where they were to that new home.  Each new home will house several souls who may not know the Lord.

Watching the building across from my friends house and then watching this link I am going to post is, well two different worlds.  People are watching a house going up in the jungle too, the  only heavy equipment is the helicopter swinging the lumber in, no roads.  To keep cost as low as possible, teams of people have come to help, paying their own way into this remote location.  The house going up across from my friends will probably sell for around seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars.  Cost of jungle house even using a helicopter  about 45 thousand.

But that is not the biggest difference, the houses build across from my friend has a different motive then the one in the jungle.  After gospel is presented to the Hewen people and there are believers also a functioning church the missionaries will tear their houses down, give the lumber to the people to build say a medical clinic, their church or even add to their houses.  The people in the village who will hear the gospel soon are excited, helping the missionaries build their houses.  knowing something big is coming or why would these white folks work so hard to live here.

Back to the village in the jungles of Papua New Guinea.  If you have a few minutes watch how a house is built in the jungle,  see the inside, but most of all look at the face of the people in the film clip.  You will probably see some of them in heaven someday.

If you ever get an urge to help build a house...try New Tribes Mission...connect with a missionary who needs a helping hand.  Ever want to build something that you can take to heaven with you...a saved soul housing the spirit of the living God is how.  Become part of their team by supporting a missionary.

  1. Loved the video Betty. I guess I am pretty jaded in the sense that I have had it so easy when it comes to service and reaching others. These folks, and people like you and Ace, are getting it done. thanks.

  2. My Wise-hearted sister and friend, how I've missed your blog. I'm crying so hard, I can't see to type, so excuse the typos.

Truly, I'm a missionary at heart. This video touched me deeply....

I will write an email soon to catch up. Thank you for this. It impacted me greatly. I love you, Betty!

  3. I was only able to watch part of the video- for some reason my computer is acting up. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong :)

    Thanks for sharing. It's inspiring.

  4. Thanks Bill for watching the video. The Hewa tribe only had one couple for years till just a year ago and two young couple joined them. The first couple actually had to move out of the village to another one of the same language. In the former village the men were killing women because they said they were witches. They even said the missionary woman was a witch. Thanks God they have partners now. There are a few believers who moved with them.

Ace has never wanted to be a pastor. He just wanted to be a part of reaching the lost and God sent us over seas. We are so very thankful for pastor who see the need to reach the whole world. Besides I am not so sure pastor have it easy anywhere. The spiritual leaders is who the enemy heads for first, knock them out and others go with them. You minister in a different jungle brother.

  5. Diane, how I have missed you too. I keep stopping by your site just in case. Actually tried to call you again today but again that same funny noise after about four rings. Send me a message if you have a new phone number.

You my friend do have a missionary heart...God use your daughter and her mission to open your eyes to so much. Pray all is well with her.

I look forward to your email. Love Betty

  6. TC, sorry about your computer, hope it is nothing serious. It was a little bit longer video then I normally post. I actually do have two friends right now who are living across from a building site. We just talked yesterday so our conversation was fresh in my mind as I watch this video. As I watch the words just kept piling up in my head so I knew God was telling me to write this.

I am working on switching over to Word press for they have several more options then google but I am so slow at figuring out how to do things. Need to find a friend near me who blogs also to help.

Thanks TC for visiting my site, always appreciate your encouraging comments and your blog post.

  7. Hi Betty,
Re your comment, I laughed at the cat situation in PNG because that was familiar to Africa too. My dad tells a story of that... Aiye. Our cats were always safe thankfully.

You have family in northern MN? I'm in central MN, in the cities.

    Have a great day,

  8. Jennifer, thought you might enjoy this video.
Yes our daughter and family home for a year from their mission work live outside of Blackduck. We plan a trip up there in Thanksgiving, maybe if there is time I will give you a call and we can meet lunch when we go through. Our daughter said it is already getting in the 40's at night, snow comes early there. Thanks for stopping by my site. Blessings to you .

  9. Dear Betty
I was thinking as I was reading your post about how we help to build the hearts of every person we meet every day. Something as little as a smile can be worth many, many bricks where an unnecessary frown can break the windows that allow the sun to warm the house!
    Blessings XX

  10. When we built a house on our street, there were only 2 or 3 others. Now there are more than a dozen, so I remember well the dirt and mess that was always present. But now I see the fruit of families making the houses their homes and it's all worth it. I've never seen a house go up in a jungle--going to watch the video now....

  11. Wow. Cut the trees and milled em' right on spot. That is cool. What amazing hearts those people have, all of them. High places in heaven for the likes of you, my friend. Deeply moving post. I'll look forward to seeing the faces of God's chosen...

  12. Thought you would enjoy the video clip Floyd since you are in the building business. Sometimes it's the first time a team has ever build a house of any kind. The young man with the long hair has helped many missionaries build. He was my son in laws partner on the surveys. I think he encourages those young couples you can do this, just watch and I will teach you. Most of them will say the process of building a house in the jungle is some they never want to do again. Of course it is worth all the sweat and tears and money just to see a lost soul come to the saving knowledge of Christ. Thanks for commenting brother.

  13. Lisa, thanks for coming by and viewing the video. I don't post it to make anyone feel guilty that they own a home. I post this kind of thing to encourage others how God is working all over the world as people work in her the states. House building is a process and a labor of love for those who will live in it. I always thing watching it is like God watching our souls being build up for Him and the finishing touches will only happen in heaven. Blessings.

  14. Thank you Betty for sharing your story at "Tell Me a Story." The house in the forest is simple but sturdy and large enough for visitors and to do their work. Were they translating the Scriptures into the native language? Just wondering.

  15. Their passion and determination is inspiring and remarkable. What greater purpose than to love people and share truth!

  16. Mia, you amaze me how you can take one little thought and see so much in it. Thanks for visiting, always encouraging.

  17. Hazel, anything other them a simple house would not hold up in the jungle. It is one of the task the missionaries will undertake after they learn their language, teach them to read and write their own language. Then translate key lesson from the old testament to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. It's along road but one that is worth all the effort. Blessing my sister.

  19. Wow, amazing video! What an adventure and what a great purpose! Blessings to the brave souls who are taking the gospel to places like this!

  20. Thanks Caleb for stopping by my site. The adventure wears off pretty quick no matter where one serves. I use to tell people the only reason I would do what we do is because the Lord loves me so much, that's enough motivation to keep going. Pray all is well with you and family as you serve over seas.

  23. Melanie, so good to hear you read to your children about missionaries. It's a way of building their faith hearing about how God met their needs. Obeying sometimes has a physical hard way of life. Blessings.
