Extension of life....

Stop always expecting your blessings to be financial or materialistic, God just may have added some time to your life instead.

Have you ever begged God to extend your life?

At almost 74 I have faced some hard health struggles but never felt frail enough that I might die.

Until recently.

On top of blood pressure issue my kidneys started failing,  infection filled my body and then I caught Covid.

I begged God with every fiber in my body to extend my life, to let me stay around my family a little longer, to restore me.  I did not ask out of fear but a desire to not go yet.

I did not hear a voice, feel a touch, get Holy goose bumps, nothing super natural happened.  It still took doctors, medicines, a stay in the hospital and lots of rest, but I am here to tell you God has extended my time here on earth.

My kidney doctor came in every day and told me how lucky I was because I was slowly getting better.  With a sadness he said, I have signed more death certificate's in the last few months then all the years of my doctoring.  He said, it had taken a toll on him.  Everyone who worked or came onto the Covid floor had to be garbed in a plastic suit with  plastic head gear with a pump attached to them that pumped cool air into their head gear.  They wore two pair of gloves all the time, taking off the top pair and adding a fresh pair with each new patient.  All the extra work wears on the nerves yet they treated me daily with kindness.  I was never worried that I wasn't being taken care of.

I am beyond grateful for the extra time God has given me.

23The steps of a man (or women) are ordered by the Lord who delights in his journey. 24Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, for the LORD is holding his hand.…Psalm 34:23-24

Not only did He give me more time but He is holding my hand as I walk it.  Would you pray I use my time wisely and with purpose?

  1. Wow, I've been wondering what happened after you last post, and kept watching for new news. So thankful that it is YOU who is here reporting your own news. So thankful the Lord has chosen to give you and extension of life here for now...He still has work for you to do. Praying that now you will slowly but surely regain your strength and be ready for whatever new mission the Lord has in store for you when you are ready. For now, just take your time and get well. Sounds like you've been in quite the battle. Praise God you had the Great Physician on your side.

    1. You are so right, I do have a great Physician on my side. My husband, my daughter tested positive also for COVID but both were able to remain at home.

    1. Thank you Martha for your prayers. After I wrote this post I thought, well, He did not even hint how may extra years He gave me, just that He added time to my life. For sure when I read that quote I knew it was from the Lord and He was shoring up my faith. Now to get well so I can get out again...and take a walk in the snow. Merry Christmas Martha.

  3. Sounds like Hezekiah. Only I suspect you will use your remaining years for more good than he did. He even spawned a son named Manasseh, known as the most evil king of Israel. that wont be you! :) Glad you are doing better Betty. That does mean God is not done with you yet.

I keep thinking every day, one more day, what are you going do with it? Well, for sure I am going to get back to blogging more, writing my book, and I have been ask to write some devotionals for a book for our mission, yes that one was a stamp on Him giving me more time. Pray all is well at your house brother, and your church and your family. Blessings

  5. Merry Christmas to you also Linda and to your family. I saw the doctor for the first time today and all she could say to me was, you are a miracle. I am not out of the woods yet and as soon as I get stronger they still want to do a scar with dye on my one kidney that is working. I think they think there is a blockage to my right one and the blood flow has stopped so it now is smaller and not functing. God knew what He was doing when He gave us two. I have no clue how much more time He has given me but I will sure enjoy it.
