Crank it up....

Those who know me, know I am a southern country/bluegrass gospel girl down to the bone.  In fact it took me going to the jungles of Papua New Guinea to expand my music appreciation.

Maybe it was listening to the drum beat coming from the village every morning that got old, or maybe it was the songs being sung by people with red teeth from chewing betel  nut mixed with lime powder that turns it red.    Hard to enjoy a song when the ones who sings has a mouth full of red stuff.

There were times I just wanted to hear something from my music. Out would come my country/bluegrass gospel with its pure harmony and the pure story of Jesus.   Those songs brought joy to my heart and ease the struggle of living so remote.  Well, that is when there was electricity.

Unless you have lived without electricity or on a limited supply as we were you can never appreciate all electricity brings.  All missionaries take their favorite music to what ever country they are ministering in, praying they will have electricity at least half of the time.   My missionary neighbor brought El Divo with her and played it the only way it should be played, LOUD.

I remember the first time I heard these guys…cold chills ran all over me. Four powerful beautiful voice blending in harmony.  If I learned anything living in two third world countries where songs are sung in another language its that you do not have to understand the words, just the heart of the music. Those four Italian men who make up the group El Divo along with my country/bluegrass groups were instrumental in encouraging me to keep on for the Lord.

Never have I appreciate music more then when we lived  overseas.
But I will let you be the judge of what I am talking about.

Crank it up and Wait for it.  https://youtu.be/ZfWunxmaUVw

  1. I loved that song, Betty! Yes, there are so many things, like electricity, that we take for granted. May we, instead, be aware of and thankful for all our many blessings.
    Blessings to you!

    1. Exactly, being thankful is my go to when I feel complaining trying to creep into my mind. Thats were good music with strong words on the gospel come in. Music can turn our minds to where ever the writer of it was. I was just country before I got saved, but cannot listen to it very much anymore due to the message especially if I am having a bad day with my husband. all I have to do is turn on the christian and even my anger goes away. Music has power which is why Saul had David come play for him when his mind was in turmoil.

  3. We never realize how much we truly appreciate music until, for some reason, it's out of our reach ...

God has put a song in our hearts that cannot be quenched!

  4. I love music. I have it on almost all the time-driving, working out, cutting grass. Only when I am studying do I not have it on, although I can do classical then. Just nothing with words. I struggle when Jo is in the car with me since she likes no music or at least so low it can't be heard or understood.

    2. I mean to add, if one has never heard the El Divo group sing with full harmony in the jungle, well everyone should go to the jungle once just to do that. I prefer the harmony of my blue grass gospel anywhere but listening to El Divo broaden my music appreciation and for the God who gave voice to sing either.

  5. Music is universally loved. The language of music is the most popular language on earth. There are various genres that appeal to some or to all listeners, but the message is the same - a message of love, pleasure, excitement that unites us all.

  6. Hello so good to meet you. Thank you for taking time to visit my corner of the world. I am not sure when the daffodils will bloom in Mn. Here in Ohio they can begin blooming in Mar. And continue into the first of May.
Music never fails to lift my heart - especially those old hymns from my childhood.
I will pray you start to see daffodils blooming in your area. God bless.

  7. Music plays such an important role in my life that I am in the process of listing the different songs over the years that ministered to my soul to leave for my children. I can't imagine being somewhere on this planet and not having music! Thank you, Betty, for sharing your love of music.

  8. I have just started back singing a little and to do so I have to practice which means I have to listen which means the words get deeper into my soul. and when that happens it makes me want to listen to more music, and sing more. My voice has taken a hit with age sitting in and then the virus really took a toll on it but really if I never sing before others except my Lord I would be happy. They may come a time when my voice cannot utter sounds but my heart will sing like I was young. Love you my blog friend.

  9. Hi Betty,
just listened to that song, I love gospel music. Regarding what we might need on this earth, what always comes to mind is 'Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and everything else will be added.' Matthew ch. 6 v.33 God bless you for sharing.

  11. I believe music is the language that we can best express our deepest heart felt feelings to the Lord. When I sing praises to the Lord, it opens up a window in heaven that lets me get a little glimpse of what heaven will be like. I am so thankful for the gift of music.
